As in many places, the State of Michigan has a pro-abortion initiative on the November ballot. However, the proposed law designed to “settle” the issue goes much further than abortion by hiding something much more sinister.
Michigan’s Legal Conundrum
The Michigan Legislature passed its current abortion law in 1931. The disastrous Roe v. Wade decision overruled it in 1973. When the Supreme Court reversed the Roe decision last summer, the 1931 law kicked back in.
Pro-abortion politicians in Michigan oppose any attempt to enforce the 1931 law. For example, the governor’s office sued thirteen county prosecutors who intended to enforce it in their jurisdictions. In August, Judge Jacob James Cunningham ignored the law by handing down an indefinite injunction.
However, a higher court or the Michigan Legislature can set that injunction aside. To prevent that from happening, pro-abortion lawmakers proposed an amendment to the Michigan Constitution known as “Prop 3.” In November, voters will accept or reject the proposal. Its supporters claim it would codify Roe v. Wade, making abortions legal at any stage of pregnancy.
However, a careful reading reveals another, even more ominous, intention.
Evil Intent, Unspeakable Implications
The Michigan Catholic Conference describes one of this proposal’s effects if voters approve it on Election Day.
“The proposal specifically allows abortion through all nine months of pregnancy—notwithstanding any contrary Michigan law—if an abortionist decides, in his professional judgment, that an abortion is necessary to protect the ‘physical or mental health’ of the mother…. An abortionist need merely document that the prospect of having a child is causing extreme anxiety and stress for the mother.” (Emphasis in the original.)

However, this proposal goes much, much further. It also removes parents from any decision about minor children who wish, for whatever reason, to “transition” from one sex to the other.
Part of the proposal reads as follows:
“Every individual has a fundamental right to reproductive freedom, which entails the right to make and effectuate decisions about all matters relating to pregnancy, including but not limited to prenatal care, childbirth, postpartum care, contraception, sterilization, abortion care, miscarriage management, and infertility care.”
Expansive and Deceiving Language
At first blush, this language does not appear to have anything to do with “transitioning.” However, one word—sterilization—brings the whole pantheon of “gender-affirming care” into this would-be law.
The opening phrase “every individual” does not differentiate between classes of person, such as being a minor or an adult. Therefore, it removes the parents’ God-given ability (and responsibility) to protect their children in this extremely sensitive area.
The leftists are willing to spend lavishly to promote this wicked proposal. According to Ballotpedia, the most recent available figures indicate that supporters of the heinous practices known as “gender-affirming” treatments and surgeries had contributed $10.6 million. The biggest contributors were the American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood.
In contrast, those supporting parents and child-victims contributed about four percent of the pro-aborts total—a shade over $426,000.

The phrase “child-victims” is the proper word to describe those who undergo treatment. This entire industry, and it is an industry, is designed to take advantage of childhood and adolescent immaturity and confusion.
Sanity Verses Delusion
Only a few years ago, the school system confronted with a student who wanted to act as though they were members of the opposite sex would have suggested mental health care to determine how deep such fixations were. They would ally with the child’s parents to help the student overcome them. They understood that a boy who thinks that he is a girl would have a very limited, and probably unhappy, future. As long as he indulged the illusion, he would inhabit a lie. A human boy cannot possibly be a girl.
The “woke” world does not acknowledge such obvious limitations. Its response is to accept the outrageous lie as a twisted form of “his truth.” Now, many schools recognize and even promote the student’s “self-identification.” The social institution designed to prepare him for the future fosters illusions that make a happy and productive future impossible.
These young people are unfortunate victims of a system that pretends to be their advocates.

Yet, incredibly, Michigan would include amongst children’s “fundamental reproductive rights” the ability to alter themselves surgically. Only in this way can such unfortunate children complete their “transitions.” Many do not realize that the mutilation of their bodies is irreversible and renders any fruitful marriage and family life impossible.
Satanic Forces at Work
The “transition” from male to female is impossible. No matter the extent of drug and surgical treatment, such unfortunate people will still be mutilated men masquerading as women or vice versa. Every chromosome in their bodies says that their lives as members of the opposite sex are pure pretensions.
However, the State of Michigan is engaged in a double deception. First, it tells minors they can dispense with human nature. It insists it must legally protect such “transitions” as “fundamental” freedoms. It acts as though legislation can transform a man into a woman.
Secondly, the State of Michigan is deceiving voters by using an abortion law to effect sex-change operations on minors. Voters are not told their votes will be used for this purpose. Leftist politicians are weaponizing the highly explosive issue of abortion to promote a much broader and more sinister agenda.
Those who promote such laws participate in the oldest lie on Earth. They pretend that someone can find freedom through a lie. In the Garden of Eden, the serpent promised Eve, “what day soever you shall eat thereof, your eyes will be opened: and you shall be as gods….” (Gen. 3:5.) Ever since, Satan has deceived every generation in much the same way.
To their dismay, Adam and Eve discovered that lies cannot dispense freedom. Michigan proves that the lesson is still unlearned. Indeed, as Saint John wrote, only “the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32.)
