Catholics Protest the Innocence of Christmas Dragged through the Gutter in Austin

What better way to hail the coming of the Christ Child than to defend Him on the cultural battlefield? Christmas celebrates the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ, but in Austin, Texas, the impure and anti-natural ACL Live Drag Queen Christmas performance mocked the coming of the Most Innocent Infant.

Thus, members of Tradition, Family, Property—Texas, along with over thirty militant Catholics, stood firm on December 23, protecting the innocence that Our Lord represented so well with His most august Birth.

The Rosary and Bagpipes Echo Throughout Austin

It was cold, raining, and already dark by 7:00 p.m. as we gathered across from the Moody Theater. The gloom did not stop the rosary or the bagpipes from being heard far down the avenue in all directions.

“I did not know I could pray that loud,” said Alvaro, a young Catholic man, “I really love being out here, in the fight.”

Eternal and Natural Law: The Foundation of Morals and Law

Indeed, the only effect the dreariness of the night seemed to have was a surge in morale. After all, it wouldn’t be much of a sacrifice if it was easy.

Vulgarity and Obscenity from the Show Goers

A measure of the effectiveness of any campaign is the intensity of the opposition. The TFP campaign must have hit the mark since the disruptions and insults were constant.

Showgoers cursed our campaign with its large banner and sidewalk full of signs denouncing the anti-natural drag show. They even made vulgar and obscene gestures at the faithful band on the other side of the road.

“Our Lord was hated and persecuted while he lived, so why should we expect anything else? It feels good to be here standing up for our Faith!” said a campaigner already an hour in the cold. He noted that it was also cold and dark on the night Our Lord was born, while he was refused anywhere but a manger to lay his head. The frigid night, rain, and vicious insults were a perfect way to make reparation for the rejection of the Christ Child and the persecution of innocence inside the theater.

Men Dressed in Drag Confront the Campaigners

Just before the sickening event was about to begin, two of the performers, men dressed in their impure and provocative drag costumes, confronted the campaign with shouts and obscene comments.

They hoped to stop our campaign but were drowned out by the rosary and the slogan, “Perversity is not diversity!” The worst of the two men even yelled, “Shame, shame, shame!” as if trying to uphold womanhood and innocence is shameful. Those who have rejected their manhood and committed themselves to such a sinful lifestyle are the ones to be ashamed, not those defending Christ and the order He placed on earth.

Impurity is Never Comical

Our hyper-sexualized culture is so depraved that no one has the right to laugh these events off as funny comedy. What goes on at these events includes sexually explicit gestures and “comedy.” These men dress themselves in clothing no self-respecting woman would wear and use the stage to spread a culture of impurity under the false pretext of comedy. Many openly advocate the LGBTQ agenda, including during story hours for children.

These events mark a downward spiral of our culture amidst the ravages of pornography, homosexuality, transgenderism, divorce, and all the other sins that are tearing the family apart. Now, even the idea of sexual identity is disputed.

Drag has no Place with Christmas

Blasphemously attempting to join drag with Christmas is repulsive. Our Lord Jesus Christ is purity and innocence itself, while drag performance promotes the contrary. Holding these events so near the date of His most precious birth mocks He who was born in Bethlehem.

That is why it is so important for Catholics to defend Our Lord in public and swell the ranks of those who engage in this crusade for innocence. During Christmastide, we should be joyful but remember that our world, culture, and Faith are under attack.

We cannot neglect this fight against those who are assaulting our Faith. Evil never sleeps. Should we not meet it with greater fervor since God is on our side? Next time there is a chance to stand up for truth in the public square, please join the fight for God, our culture, and our country.
