San Francisco Board of Supervisors Offends Vatican and Calls for Schism

In Red China, members of the Catholic clergy are not free to obey orders from the Pope or cardinals of the Roman Curia, as they are in free countries. Communists see such directives as interference in a country’s internal affairs. They label the Vatican as a “foreign country” rather than the seat of a universal religion, the Catholic Church. To keep everything under control, communist regimes set up schismatic “patriotic churches” with bishops and priests who have broken with the “foreign country.”1

Something similar appears to be developing here in the United States. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved a March 16 resolution publicly censuring the Catholic Church for its position forbidding adoption of children by homosexual pairs. The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) is protesting this brutal resolution as an attack on all Catholics and public morality.2

Dealing with a blatant internal matter of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, board members called upon newly-installed Archbishop George H. Nierderauer “to defy” Vatican guidelines forbidding Catholic Charities to turn over children for adoption to homosexual pairs.

In typical communist parlance, the Board labels the Vatican as a “foreign country” that seeks to meddle with what it questionably calls “established customs and traditions” of the city of San Francisco, “such as the right of same-sex couples to adopt and care for children in need.” Putting on airs of an infallible authority, Board members dogmatically state: “Same-sex couples are just as qualified to be parents as are heterosexual couples.”

The Board also lambasted Cardinal William Levada, former Archbishop of San Francisco and present head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. For supporting the Catholic guidelines, the Board branded him an “unqualified representative of his former home and the values” the city holds dear, such as, presumably, homosexual practice.

The attitude of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors is a clear affront to all Catholics and an insult to the Vatican. They directly attack the very hierarchical structure of the Catholic Church, personally established by the Divine Savior, who proclaimed: “Thou art Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church.”

According to The San Francisco Chronicle, the resolution was tragically written by a Catholic homosexual city councilman and signed by several other members who consider themselves Catholic.

The startling and brutally hostile resolution can only call into question whether the homosexual movement is gearing up for a war against religion which, at the same time as it persecutes the Catholic Church, calls for the establishing schismatic pro-homosexual churches.
