The vegan world can be very violent. A California restaurant owner learned the hard way. She felt she had no choice but to move her business and family to Texas after enduring attacks that could be described as terrorism. Her crime was changing her mind about operating her vegan restaurant and therefore adding meat to its menu.
Such a “betrayal” triggered reactions from local animal rights activists. Instead of respecting her right to change her mind, they harassed her to the point of closing down her business.
There was no reasoning with the protesters. Decisions based on facts and logic that oppose the woke agenda are not permitted!
A Change of Heart
Mollie Engelhart operated a chain of five vegan restaurants in Los Angeles for 14 years. She was a dedicated supporter of plant-based diets, which she believed helped create healthier lifestyles. However, her view changed significantly after watching a TED Talk on environmental farming and vegetable fertilization.
The talk caused her to question the sustainability and ethical integrity of vegan food production. She discovered that most organic farming methods depend on animal-derived products such as blood meal, bone meal and animal waste, often sourced from the very industrial systems that veganism opposes. This realization made her believe that a truly “vegan” food system, entirely separate from animal agriculture, is impossible—therefore, complete veganism is a lie.
She adopted regenerative agriculture—a system that integrates sustainable animal husbandry with vegetable production. Thus, she revised her restaurant concepts to reflect her new view of reality. She added meat from organically raised animals to the menu.
Vegan Terrorist Attacks Begin
When Mrs. Engelhart announced in May 2024 that her Sage Regenerative Kitchen & Brewery would serve meat, it triggered an immediate, aggressive response from vegan thugs.
Protesters targeted the restaurant. They entered the establishment with drums and megaphones, chanting slogans like “Meat is murder” and “Chef Mollie has blood on her hands.”
According to her, the protesters damaged property, threw fake blood on the building, and harassed customers and staff. She was forced to close the restaurant on several occasions, including one Father’s Day, which substantially reduced her bottom line.
Mrs. Engelhart called the police multiple times during these incidents, but their response was often delayed by up to 3 hours, leaving her and her staff to manage the nasty situation alone.
The Last Straw
The persistent protests led to financial strain. In a last effort to save the business, the Engelharts sold their home. It was not enough to prevent disaster.
Enduring harassment from vegan goons was bad enough. However, California state regulations were the last straw that forced her to leave.
The state’s “intolerable” and “suffocating” regulations made operating a small business an insurmountable obstacle. The couple faced costs for workplace violence prevention plans, expanded paid sick leave, and a rising minimum wage that reached $16.50 in 2025 and is slated to increase in 2026.
In January 2025, she had had enough. She closed her final Los Angeles location and moved her family to Texas.
A New Start in Texas
Today, the Engelharts operate Sovereignty Ranch in Texas, where they raise cattle, pigs and lambs. They opened a new restaurant called The Barn. She continues to advocate for the regenerative agriculture practices that sparked the unjust persecution by intolerant vegans in California.
The Engelhart story is a brutal example of what happens when liberal activists turn on those who reconsider the liberal narratives. There is no rational discussion about the merits of a shift in opinion. There is only the ruthless intolerance of the woke mob, ever ready to deprive dissenters of their livelihood.
