“Jesus Christ Superstar” is a rock opera chock-full of mockery and blasphemy. And it was just shown at the prestigious Hollywood Bowl earlier this month.
The worst part is that the main actors are played by outspoken LGBT activists.
The part of “Jesus” was blasphemously played by a woman, Cynthia Erivo, who is known for playing the Wicked Witch in the movie Wicked.
As someone who publicly professes being “queer,” Erivo described this production as “the gayest place on Earth.” (Emphasis added)
Unfortunately, there is more reason to shudder than just the actors.
Many of the rock songs that “Jesus” and the other apostles sang contain heresy and blasphemy.
At a certain point, “Mary Magdalene” sang about how she is in love with “Jesus”.
Then, during the last supper, after he said the unforgettable “do this in memory of me, the “Jesus” character had an angry outburst singing “I must be mad thinking I’ll be remembered…I must be out of my head. My name will mean nothing ten minutes after I’m dead.”
Could there be a worse way to depict Our Lord?
In the next scene, he was in the Garden of Gethsemane, and he is doubting whether his mission will have any success.
The musical concluded with the death on the cross. There is no resurrection.
This mockery of Our Lord’s most important time on earth is truly heart-rending.
Although God’s honor is not in the least tarnished by wickedness such as this, it nevertheless saddens Him and needs to be denounced and atoned for.
