TFP Supports ABM Treaty Withdrawal -December 18, 2001
In a December 18 letter, the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) showed its appreciation to President George W. Bush for following through with his promise to withdraw from the Anti-Ballistic Missile treaty.

Prince Bertrand Speaks on Leadership and Faith - Dec. 7-16
On December 7-16, Prince Bertrand of Orleans-Braganza went on a TFP-sponsored speaking tour of American cities which included St. Louis, Missouri; New Orleans and Alexandria, Louisiana. He spoke on the importance of Catholic leadership in society and visited with Catholic and civic leaders. Prince Bertrand bears the title of Prince Imperial of Brazil, since he is the brother and heir to Prince Louis, the present Head of the Imperial House of Brazil. Both Prince Louis and Prince Bertrand are distinguished members of Brazilian Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP).

A New Phase In an Old Conflict - November 9, 2001
On November 9, over one hundred TFP members, friends and supporters gathered together at the TFP's Washington Bureau in McLean, VA, to discuss Islam in the post-September 11th world.

TFP Conference on the Dawn on the Third Millenium

On October 6 - 7, Monsignor Michael R. Schmitz, His Imperial and Royal Highness Prince Bertrand of Orleans-Braganza and 150 American TFP supporters and friends met at a TFP Conference at its headquarters in Spring Grove, Penn., to analyze current events from the Fatima perspective and spread a much needed hope for life in the post-September 11 world.

In an August 11 statement, the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) criticized President Bush's recent statement on federally funded embryonic stem cell research on existing stem cell lines. It qualified the compromise as a decision that has opened "a veritable Pandora's box of moral, ethical and legal problems."

Immediate Deployment of Effective Missile Defense

Effective missile defense must be a top priority, according to an American TFP statement just released at a July 31 press conference held by the Americans for Missile Defense in Washington.

Nearly one hundred people attended the conference highlighting the importance of defending America from a nuclear threat.

TFP Finds
No Need For Global Gun Control

(July 19, 2001)
In a letter to President George W. Bush, the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) commended the Administration for its "forthright, frank and courageous position" in deterring UN efforts to prohibit civilian possession of small arms.

The TFP took note of comments by Mr. John Bolton, Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs, when he addressed the "UN Conference on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All its Aspects" this past July 9.

Catholics to Santa Fe Museum:
Keep Blasphemy Out!

(June 30, 2001)
Nearly a thousand Catholics gathered and prayed in front of Santa Fe's Museum of International Folk Art to express their outrage at an exhibit they considered blasphemous. The June 30 rally centered on Alma Lopez's "Our Lady," an "art" display that has divided this New Mexican city for months. Offended Catholics from all over New Mexico and at least seven other states were represented in the crowd.

Note: Due to public pressure, the museum closed this exhibit on October 28, 2001

Corpus Christi at Indiana University

Like most productions considered blasphemous, the scheduled showing of the play Corpus Christi at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) on August 10-11, is dividing the local community members, many of whom are lodging protests against Chancellor Michael Wartell who has refused to reconsider.

TFP Statement on UK Elections:
Don't Ignore Moral Crisis

(May 31, 2001)
In face of June 7 elections which centered on ecnomic issues, the Society for the Defence of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) in the United Kingdom issued a statement on the lack of ideological and moral content of the electoral debate. The statement "Are We To Be Treated As a Nation With Only a Stomach?" was published in three daily newspapers and handed out in public street campaigns in London.

TFP Announces
Reparation Rally at Santa Fe Museum

Overwhelming public outcry should have prompted the museum officials to cancel the art exhibit. However, despite the continual yet peaceful protests, Alma Lopez's "Our Lady" exhibit at the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico will remain for five more months. In response to the decision, the American TFP and its affiliate campaign America Needs Fatima announced a June 30 rally of peaceful protest and reparation in front of the museum.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Insulted
This Isn't Just Any Blasphemy!

(May 1, 2001)
However, Alma Lopez's "Our Lady" exhibit at the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico goes to new extremes. Press reports describe the exhibit as a computer collage portraying a bikini-clad Virgin of Guadalupe, held aloft by a topless woman-angel. "This isn't just any blasphemy," claims Mr. Robert Ritchie, campaign coordinator. "It targets Our Lady in an invocation that is so dear to Catholics, Americans, and those who fight abortion. The 'artist' could not have picked a more cherished image of Our Lady to deform."

Breaking with the Cult of Ugliness

(March 13-14, 2001)
Over fifty TFP friends and supporters in the Baltimore area filled the student lounge at the Loyola University Graduate Center in Timonium on March 13 to listen to Fr. Anthony Brankin speak on "The Cult of Ugliness in America." Father also spoke the following night to a full auditorium in the amenable atmosphere of the TFP Washington Bureau in McLean, Virginia.

On Pilgrimage in
Catholic Louisianna

In Louisiana, American TFP friends and volunteers enjoy a constant schedule of visiting speakers and regional activities. Increasingly popular in the past few years are the pilgrimages to the famous Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor in New Orleans and other locations of our forgotten Catholic heritage. The February 10th pilgrimage gathered together over 80 people from the region.

A Big No To
Corpus Christi
at Akron University

When blasphemy reared its ugly head on the University of Akron, faithful Catholics could not remain silent. On February 2-4, American TFP and its America Needs Fatima campaign organized protests and acts of reparation against three performances of the blasphemous play Corpus Christi. The play presents Our Lord Jesus Christ and the apostles as homosexuals, and highlights a love affair between Our Lord and Judas.

Perhaps the most controversial pope in history, Pius IX was beatified on September 3, 2000. To hear about this great counter-revolutionary figure, American TFP friends and supporters filled the auditorium at the TFP Washington Bureau in McLean, Virginia. The January 27 talk, "Blessed Pius IX: A Pope for All Seasons" was delivered by Prof. Roberto de Mattei, noted writer, lecturer, and president of the Lepanto Cultural Center in Rome.

Something was different about the March For Life 2001 in Washington D.C. this January 22. Perhaps this difference was one of mood. The anti-abortion movement has long suffered the terrible winter of the pro-abortion Clinton Administration. One could sense a sigh of relief in expectation of a thaw.

Speaks Out With Illinois

More than 400 people came together for the 10th Annual Speak Out Illinois conference in Chicago on January 13th to strategize on how to turn back the abortion culture. Forty-five anti-abortion and pro-family organizations took part, among them the American Society for the Defense of Tradtion, Family and Property (TFP).
