TFP Announces
Rally of Reparation at Brooklyn Museum
March 13 - What the Brooklyn Museum
of Art calls "art," Catholics across the country
consider blasphemy. To protest, the American TFP and its
affiliate campaign America Needs Fatima announced today
an April 21 rally of peaceful protest and reparation in
front of the museum.
According to press reports, two blasphemous
portrayals of Jesus Christ are now on display at the museum
- a photo of a nude woman standing in Jesus' place at the
Last Supper and another of a topless woman on a cross. (Daily
News Express, 2/15/01; Reuters, 2/15/01).
"We have the permit and we're
starting to line up some excellent speakers," says
campaign director Robert E. Ritchie. "We expect to
see thousands of protesters, praying the rosary and protesting
Saturday at one o'clock in front of the Brooklyn Museum."
Thousands of Catholics appeared
for similar peaceful protests against the play Corpus
Christi and the premiere of the movie Dogma.
Mr. Ritchie expects this protest to be the biggest ever.
TFP and America Needs Fatima supporters
are already sending thousands of e-mail protests to The
Brooklyn Museum of Art. E-mails of encouragement are also
going to Mayor Rudolph Giuliani to thank him for trying
to avoid future blasphemies by working to establish decency
standards for museums receiving public money. Printed protest
flyers will soon be ready to distribute nationwide.
The TFP rally is one more step Catholics
can take to let their voices be heard. Plans are under way
to mail out 170,000 invitations and place newspaper ads.
"A lot of people are already
exited about the rally," Mr. Ritchie added. "I
can't think of a better way to show how much we care for
the Honor of Our Lord Jesus Christ."
