URGENT ACTION REQUESTED!
Madness in Madison

It has been five long years since playwright Terrence McNally first staged Corpus Christi in New York City. Since then, the play, which portrays Our Lord Jesus Christ and the apostles as homosexuals, has generated protests, local indignation and negative publicity at secondary theaters. Thousands of Catholics have come to Our Lord’s defense with vibrant and moving acts of reparation. No major venue has dared touch it.

You Are Urged to Protest the Showing of Corpus Christi

Since new plans to stage the play were made public, The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) and its TFP Student Action project are gearing up for a nationwide protest against a March 2004 showing at the Bartell Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin.

“The Person of Jesus Christ is sacred and untouchable. To portray Him as a homosexual, or even to insinuate it, is an unspeakable blasphemy, which I reject with all my soul,” said TFP Student Action director John Ritchie.

“We’ve opposed this blasphemous production in the past, but unfortunately there seems to be no end to the malice that motivates blasphemy-pushers and now it’s back. That’s why TFP Student Action is contacting thousands of Catholic students, urging them to defend the honor and dignity of Our Lord Jesus Christ,” Mr. Ritchie added.

The first stage of this peaceful and legal protest consists in sending e-protest letters to the Bartell Theatre, expressing a complete rejection for the play. Similar letters are being sent to the Mayor of Madison asking him to join the protest and consider how this play will only negatively affect Madison’s reputation.

Tens of thousands of Catholics are already participating in the first step. Now TFP Student Action readers can send their own protests to the Bartell Theatre, and the mayor by filling out the form below.

As in the past, the TFP will sponsor a massive rally of reparation at the Bartell Theatre if Corpus Christi is shown there in March, as planned.

“Protests are effective. They generate lots of negative publicity, and that is definitely not the type of publicity the Bartell Theatre wants to hear about, I’m sure,” Mr. Ritchie stressed.

To Mayor Cieslewicz:

I vehemently protest against the production of the blasphemous play Corpus Christi, which includes a Christ-like figure who reportedly has sexual relations with his apostles.

The Person of Jesus Christ is sacred and untouchable. To portray Him as a homosexual, or even to insinuate it, is an unspeakable blasphemy, which I reject with all my soul. If you proceed with this production, be sure countless Catholics will oppose it in a massive peaceful and legal protest.

To the Bartell Theatre:

As you may know, Corpus Christi is scheduled to show at the Bartell Theatre in Madison in March 2004.

Press reports say the play "depicts a Christ figure who indulges in gay sex romps with his disciples" (Tabloid, 5-31-98), and that "‘Joshua’ [the Christ figure] is born in a Texas flea-bag hostel, according to The New York Times, and grows up in a sexually-charged environment complete with gay encounters, profanity, even violence. Joshua ends up being crucified as ‘king of the queers"’ (American Atheist, 5-30-98).

I urge you to do everything possible to stop this showing of Corpus Christi, since it blasphemes Our Lord Jesus Christ and, in my opinion, will provoke His just wrath. Your efforts to stop this blasphemy will surely win God’s blessings for the city of Madison and the nation as a whole.
