This is Not Funny Mr. Ritcher

When graphic designer Scott Ritcher was recently asked why he had made a blasphemous representation of the Sacred Heart with the face of former President Bill Clinton,1 he responded: “It was just one of those creative moments where you’re just like ‘Oh wouldn’t this be funny?’”2

However, his attempt at humor has raised the ire of Catholics who see the depiction as an insult to the Faith and the Sacred Person of Our Lord Jesus Christ. “To depict anyone, even a saint, as Christ would be insulting,” said TFP Web Editor John Horvat. “But when the person being depicted as our Savoir is a well-known supporter of abortion, the insult runs much deeper.”

Many Catholics see this as the latest episode in a growing trend to denigrate the Faith. “I read about this stuff every day,” said America Needs Fatima director Robert Ritchie. “It is almost like someone has declared an open season on Catholics and Our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Ritcher is marketing the image, which he calls, “Saint Bill Clinton,” on everything from coffee mugs to mouse pads. Although he insists that he did not intend to offend anyone, his comments suggest otherwise. On a recent online discussion board, he stated: “I find most Christianity in general to be less Christian. For those reasons, I could not be happier that people are offended by my artwork.”3

In addition to his “Saint Clinton” products, he is also marketing an “I love abortion” line of apparel, which includes baby bibs.

With this in mind, the TFP web site is launching an email campaign to legally and peacefully request that cafepress.com stop selling “Saint Bill Clinton” merchandise and publish a written apology on their web site. “Standing together as Catholics, we can take a stand and send this cheap insult to our Faith back where it belongs, in the garbage,” said Mr. Horvat. “I hope to activate our entire email list to send a big message to Scott Ritcher. I want to let him know that this is not funny and that the open-season on Catholics and Our Lord Jesus Christ is officially closed.”

Now is the time to act. Click on the links below to join the TFP web site in this effort.
