16 Catholic Colleges Cancel "V*****
Monologues"
Scandalizing students nationwide,
over 40 Catholic colleges intended to allow performances
of the lewd "V***** Monologues" play on their
campuses, a piece replete with sexual encounters, lust,
graphic descriptions of masturbation and lesbian behavior.
Now, several of the colleges have reconsidered.
It is difficult to fathom how any Catholic
institution of higher learning would give open forum to
this play, which explicitly condones mortal sin, and promotes
the corrosive agenda of the sexual revolution on campus.
Protest triggers cancellations
Earlier this month, the American TFP launched
its protest against the play, urging the presidents of each
Catholic college where it was scheduled to look into the
matter and cancel any planned production. The Cardinal Newman
Society also started their protest in December. The good
news is that 16 Catholic colleges canceled the play so far.
Why are they canceling? Because protests work. Hundreds
of protest letters, e-mails, and phone calls are flooding
their offices right now, causing these college presidents
public relation nightmares.
The TFP applauds the university officials
that banned the play.
According to the official V-Day’s
web site, the group that issues licenses for "V*****
Monologues" production on campus, the following Catholic
colleges are no longer on their listing:
Carroll College, MT
Catholic University of America, DC
Emmanuel College, MA
Holy Names College, CA
Loyola University of Chicago, IL
Stritch School of Medicine, IL
Loyola University of New Orleans, LA
Mount St. Mary's College, CA
St. Ambrose University, IA
St. John's University, NY
St. Joseph's College, IN
St. Norbert College, WI
University of Detroit Mercy, MI
University of Portland, OR
University of St. Francis, IL
Wheeling Jesuit University, WV
The Protest Continues
Although 16 Catholic colleges either canceled
or no longer plan to stage this verbally pornographic play,
29 seem ready to give it the green light, including Boston
College, DePaul, Georgetown, Loyola of Chicago, Loyola Marymount
and the University of Notre Dame.
Adding insult to injury, some university
officials attempted to justify the immoral play. Provost
of the prominent University of Notre Dame, Nathan O. Hatch,
responded to protest e-mails saying: “…The performance
is being co-sponsored by the Gender Studies program and
several other campus organizations and… we respect
their right to present this material. As I have stated before,
the University of Notre Dame values open and self-critical
discussion of ideas and issues within the context of its
educational mission.”
Catholic parents with children at these
institutions are deeply disturbed. They had assumed their
tuition went towards a good "Catholic" education,
and somehow guaranteed their children’s formation
in matters of faith and morals. However, by allowing events
such as the lustful "V***** Monologues" on Catholic
campuses, administration officials send mixed messages to
students and jeopardize their faith.
