Student Action at Penn State:
A Sliver of Light
By James Bascom
On Tuesday, October 22, TFP Student Action
members traveled to the Penn State Universitys huge State
College campus in the latest phase of its campaign in defense of
the Catholic Church. TFP Student Action members passed out over
3,000 fliers titled The Church, Holy and Immortal, Shall Prevail!
and surveyed approximately 100 Penn State students and professors.
Campaigning outside the busy main gate of
the university, the TFP raised its standards and spread a message
of clarity and hope. The statement contained a realistic analysis
of the present scandals inside the Church and the criteria for an
authentic solution.
The
Church has been under a serious media attack since the scandals
first broke out in the Boston archdiocese in January. Curiously
absent from the debate is discussion of the profound moral problems
in society and especially that of homosexuality inside the priesthood.
It seems academia suffers a similar outlook.
On the day of the TFP campaign, Penn States student newspaper,
The Collegian, reported that the university is in the process
of creating a minor in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT)
Equity.
Perhaps that explains why many PSU students
were happy to see TFP Student Action on their campus speaking up
in defense of their Faith. Many would say: Keep up the good
work, Great job or Im Catholic too.
The favorable response at the campus was like a sliver of light
in a dark and cloudy world of moral relativism.
